Budgam, Dec 31 (KNO): Budgam Police conducted extensive anti-narcotics drives throughout 2025, achieving significant success in curbing drug trafficking, dismantling networks, and targeting proceeds of crime under the NDPS Act. According to official data available with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Police registered 58 NDPS during the year, leading to the arrest of 83 persons involved in narcotics trade. Additionally, 15 individuals were detained under PIT NDPS, while convictions were secured in three cases, reflecting steady progress in investigations and prosecutions. During special drives, 46 kanals of illicit poppy and bhang cultivation were also destroyed across different areas of the district. PROPERTY ATTACHMENT As part of the strategy to hit drug traffickers financially, Budgam Police attached properties in 11 NDPS cases. The attached assets include 8 residential houses, 2 shopping complexes, 6 kanals and 1 marla land, and 03 vehicles, with a total estimated value of Rs 3.69 crore. Police said these properties were acquired from the proceeds of illegal narcotics trade. NARCOTICS SEIZED IN 2025 During the year, Budgam Police seized a wide range of narcotic substances with a total estimated market value of Rs 2.57 crore. The seized contraband includes; Charas: 2.936 kg (₹5.87 lakh), Charas Powder: 41.542 kg (₹41.54 lakh), Spasmo Proxyvon: 112 tablets (₹0.056 lakh), Bhang Leaves: 33.100 kg (₹16.50 lakh), Heroin: 0.108 kg (₹10.80 lakh), Poppy Straw: 126.405 kg (₹6.32 lakh), Fukki: 4.290 kg (₹0.21 lakh), Cannabis Powder: 330.000 kg (₹165.00 lakh), Ganja: 22.759 kg (₹11.14 lakh), Cash recovered: ₹0.36 lakh. In compliance with legal provisions, Budgam Police conducted a mass destruction drive of seized narcotic substances under Section 52-A of the NDPS Act. The disposal was carried out under the supervision of the District Level Drug Disposal Committee. A total of 210 kilograms and 781 grams of narcotic drugs, seized in 34 NDPS FIRs, were destroyed during the year. The destroyed substances included; Poppy Straw: 160 kg 659 grams, Charas Powder: 48 kg 784 grams, Charas: 920 grams, Synthetic Drugs (Spasmopyvon-proximon): 64 tablets, Ganja: 418 grams The destroyed contraband had an approximate market value of Rs 1 crore. Police said the destruction was carried out strictly as per prescribed legal and environmental norms at the Kashmir Healthcare System Bio-Medical Waste Unit, IGC Lasipora, Pulwama. Officials said the year-long action reflects Budgam Police’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, combining enforcement, financial disruption, crop destruction and lawful disposal to safeguard society, particularly youth, from the menace of drugs—(KNO)
